VIDEO | Delhi: Artist and photographer Raihan Vadra, son of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Robert Vadra, says the Bikaner House administration pulled down several of his photographs of recent Delhi protests ahead of his solo exhibition. He says, "Yesterday at 6.00 PM, I was approached by the Bikaner House management over the phone, saying that some of the photos I was planning to display were objectionable and against their policy. I said, okay, let me know what the photos are, give me the reasoning, give it to me in writing, because I am not inclined to remove those photos immediately until you give me a full explanation. I didn't hear back from them till yesterday afternoon. Yesterday afternoon, they told me first that their team came to see the show and complimented me on the photos. Then later in the afternoon, I got a call from the Deputy Resident Commissioner, who said we have to remove all those photos. I said, please give it to me in writing. They were refusing to give it to us in writing. Then the Principal Resident Commissioner came. He walked through the show with me and basically said that the context and timing of displaying these pictures was incorrect and that I had not shared these pictures with them before. I said that I had shared a layout with these images a week earlier. They then said that the layout was not legible and they couldn't read it. I said, but then you could have told me six days ago. You're telling me four hours before my show, what am I going to do?" (Full video available on PTI Videos - https://t.co/bIyFWTfmBd)

.@raihanrvadra When someone with power becomes afraid of the expression of another, he doesn’t know it, but he has already lost the very power he is trying to protect. You stand for what is true and everything beautiful will find its way to you. I am proud of you, always will be.  mama

VIDEO | Artist and photographer Raihan Vadra, the son of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Robert Vadra, said the Bikaner House administration pulled down many of his pictures of the recent Delhi protests ahead of a solo exhibition. Robert Vadra says, “I am very proud of my son, Raihan, for the hard work he puts in every time he takes up a subject that is relevant to what is happening around him... This was yet another exhibition Raihan was holding at Bikaner House. Given the prevailing situation in our country, he also attended the protests, keeping his friends in mind and considering the support students needed. He followed them with his camera, as he always carries it with him, capturing photographs and expressions. He then thought of organising an exhibition on the subject and worked hard towards it. About a week in advance, he submitted a PDF file to the authorities at Bikaner House. They did not raise any concerns or respond in any way that suggested the content was controversial. However, in the last 24 hours, after he and his team had worked extremely hard to set up the exhibition and put up the displays, some authorities arrived at the last minute and said they wanted to double-check everything that had been put up. The commissioner of Bikaner House then arrived and said that certain displays would have to be removed. When Raihan asked how many displays were an issue and offered to remove any that were considered controversial, he was told that all 75 had to be taken down.” (Full video available on PTI Videos - https://t.co/bIyFWTfmBd)
